Examining the spaces where reality becomes surreal
During my Design Master's program, I partook in a decades long tradition called "Personal Statements", where program second year's build and display an installation that centers a medium, practice, and statement that feels most true to them.
I presented Transcendence:
Transcendence is a four part photo series utilities light, shadow, and reflection to highlight themes of race, womanhood, hiddenness, and surreality. Shown in the order above, I printed, framed, and mounted each photo to float within a void of black curtains to create an immersive gallery walkthrough experience.
In between each photo was a guiding prompt laser engraved onto red acrylic to create continuity between the stain glass elements of the photographs and the gallery viewer's experience.
"I fell in love with photography out of a thirst to capture the subtleties of existence. But I quickly found in it a joy to create form that transcends mere moments"
Our lenses invite us to find the new in-betweens where reality meets perspective, the mundane elicits awe and intuition births new meaning.

Perhaps this can become a guide for living; finding beauty in the
ordinary; finding the interstitial spaces where reality becomes surreal and magic comes to life in the ethereal
Photography has served as a medium to explore the ways we can call out these occurrences; a practice through which we continually train our eye to be more keen to the potential of the world around us.
